Cuts Hit Domestic Violence Victims

A report by former solicitor general Vera Baird has highlighted concerns over the effect of justice spending cuts on domestic abuse victims. Labour claims that one in five specialist refuges for women fleeing violent partners has closed down over the past four years, and that four in ten women who alleged domestic violence in many family disputes were unable to get legal aid under new rules requiring tougher evidence.
